Men's Retreat Idea (with Teens and College Students) on Suffering, Sacrifice and Self-Discipline
In a world that glorifies comfort, materialism, and self-centered ambition, it’s more important than ever for older men to guide the next generation toward a life of true purpose. This retreat calls men and teens together to explore the values of suffering, sacrifice, and self-discipline—virtues that Jesus invited His disciples to embrace as they followed Him. By sharing experiences and wisdom, older men can help their sons understand the challenges they will face, from societal pressures to the allure of the American Dream's hollow promises; and do this in community.
This retreat provides a unique opportunity for men of all ages to support each other, building a community where faith can flourish and mature. Together, they’ll learn how to resist a life of comfort and material ambition, discovering instead the strength of sacrificial love and commitment to others. Inspired by a powerful retreat at Christ Central Church in Raleigh, NC, this program is designed to equip young men with the resilience and faith-centered vision they need to navigate life’s challenges and live with purpose.
Below is a suggested structure for a retreat weekend based on what I covered in North Carolina. For theological reasons, if an Anglican or PCA church or any RUF chapter would like to host such a weekend, I’d be happy to come and speak. For RUF chapters, I’m happy to donate my time. No problem! I am also leading a one-day version of this retreat for the brothers of RUF at Rutgers University in January 2025.
