Was David French Really Canceled?
Here’s my take on the David French controversy in the New York Times below. In Part 1, I explain the areas where I sympathize with French’s experience of enduring ridiculous forms of racism. Since 2004, I’ve experienced enormous racism and have even been labeled “woke” by many people in the Presbyterian Church in America. I get it. In Part 2 (about 15 minutes in), I discuss why I don't believe French was canceled, partly because I don’t think he was a principled Presbyterian in terms of his Christian social and political philosophy. He was certainly uninvited by default because the panel was cancelled but, in my view, the panel topic was a bad idea in the first place. I explain why.
In my book, The Political Economy of Liberation: Thomas Sowell and James Cone on the Black Experience, I include several sources from classical Reformed political and social thought from Althusius forward.
Here’s a link to some the of the racist stuff I’ve encountered.
I also give a full treatment to the racist stuff I’ve encountered in the book, Aliens in the Promised Land. I spent years being called the “n” word. I probably still am in many churches.
Lastly, this the most important book that everyone in the PCA needs to read before they vote in November: Political Visions and Illusions by David Koyzis.
